In an economy where a lot of people are looking for jobs, onething keeps moving, much to the chagrin of children everywhere:School.

The “Teach and Inspire” program is offering individuals with abachelor’s degree a look into a career in teaching.

“We’re really excited about these events in Mississippi,” saidprogram spokesman Mike Holden. “We’re looking for more great newteachers, and we’re excited to be working with all these districtsto try to find them.”

The program that allows people to become fully licensed teachersand possibly even have classrooms of their own will be explained inan information session on Wednesday, officials said. The AmericanBoard for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) will hostfree information sessions on its Teach & Inspire ScholarshipProgram at the Lincoln County Public Library at 5:30 p.m., 6:30p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Holden said the meetings are worth attending even if anindividual is not sure if the program is for them or not.

“If anyone is considering a career in teaching, we encouragethem to come to these events,” he said. “They’re free, and ifsomeone can’t make it in person, they can find the presentations onour Web site.”

Holden directed Web surfers to www.abcte.org/inspire, sayingthat the program is self-paced and almost entirely online in orderto make it easier for people who already have a job and are tryingto fit the education into their schedules.

Teach & Inspire participants then make a three-yearcommitment to teach their subject in a Mississippi school,officials said. Participants must already have attained abachelor’s degree.

The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence liststheir mission as being “a non-profit organization, dedicated torecruiting, preparing, certifying and supporting dedicatedprofessionals to improve student achievement through qualityteaching. ABCTE offers an innovative teacher preparation andcertification program for highly knowledgeable individuals who wantto change careers and become teachers.”
