Wesson (8-1, 3-1) captured a key 33-17 victory over Madison St.Joe last week. Puckett, ranked No. 5 in the AP Mississippi PrepClass 2A Poll, squashed Hinds AHS 39-0 last week.

Puckett holds the No. 1 spot in the region and was the Class 1Astate champ the last 2 out of 3 years before reclassification.

Wesson head football coach Tommy Clopton said Puckett is anexplosive football team. The are coached by Jaris Patrick.

“Puckett is a very good football team,” said Clopton. “JeremyPalmer is one the best backs in the state. (Palmer scored 3touchdowns last week). Their quarterback does a tremendous job.They are a well coached football team. They will go toe-to-toe withyou.

“We have to try to eliminate their big plays and make big playswhen we have to. We have to try not to let them dictate the styleof play. It is a big ball game. “

In the victory over Hinds AHS, senior running back Jeromy Smithsparked Wesson with 39 carries for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns.Following with 101 yards on 5 carries was Dre’ Smith.

On defense, Dre’ Smith picked off 2 passes, recovered a fumbleand tied with teammate Deon Pendleton with 11 tackles apiece.

Lawrence County (6-4, 4-0) wraps up regular season play Fridaynight hosting the Port Gibson Blue Waves in their final Region 6-4Agame. The Monticello-based Cougars, under Mike Davis, stoppedColumbia 38-20 in a Thursday night special last week.

Port Gibson (4-5, 1-3) was shut out by South Pike 30-0 lastFriday.

In the win over Columbia, Josh Cameron carried 16 times for 199yards and 4 touchdowns. Trevor Havis followed with 68 yards on 7carries.

Franklin County (7-3, 3-1) suffered a tough 16-7 Region 7-3Adefeat at the hands of unbeaten powerhouse Tylertown (9-0, 4-0)last week. Coach Trent Hammond’s Bulldogs invade Jefferson CountyFriday in another region test.

Jefferson County (4-4) shocked favorite Hazlehurst 32-18 lastFriday.

In the defeat by Tylertown, Franklin County got its onlytouchdown from Tevin Thomas.

The Franklin County defense got 9 tackles, a forced fumble and asack from Bobby O’Quinn. LaDarrius Hunt and Billy Norman followedwith 6 tackles apiece.

North Pike (6-2) destroyed Crystal Springs 41-20 last week.Coach Chris Smith’s Summit-based Jaguars host Region 7-4A rivalSouth Pike (4-5, 2-2) this week.

The Magnolia-based Eagles are coached by Randall Huffman.

Hazlehurst (7-3) invades Amite County (1-6) this week for aRegion 7-3A test. The Indians, coached by Todd McDaniel were upset32-18 by Jefferson County last week.

Amite County high school principal is Tim McDaniel, the youngerbrother of Todd. The brothers were assistant coaches to WillieBrown when Hazlehurst won the 3A state football title in 2005.

A win over Amite County would give Hazlehurst a No. 4 seed inthe upcoming playoffs.

Crystal Springs (0-9) hosts Columbia in the Tigers’ final Region7-4A game of the season. Columbia is 6-4 on the season.
