Mize romps past Wesson

MIZE – The Wesson Cobras fell to the Mize Bulldogs 28-14 in theopening round of the Class 2A state football playoffs Fridaynight.

Wesson, coached by Tommy Clopton, finishes the season with an8-3 record.

“Our kids played extremely hard,” said Clopton. “It has been arough couple of weeks. Mize made a few more plays than we did. Ourkids did well week in and week out.”

Clopton said junior quarterback Matt Smith suffered a concussionin last week’s game at Puckett and was held out of the playoffgame. Smith had sprained an ankle in his team’s overtime loss toLoyd Star Oct. 9.

Cobra quarterback Jacob Fischer scored a 9-yard TD in the firstquarter for a brief 7-0 lead. Austin Graham kicked both PATs.

In the fourth quarter, Deon Pendleton caught a 1-yard TD passfrom Fischer.
