Private memorial graveside services for Sallie Johnson Farrell,of Baton Rouge, La., are 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at RosehillCemetery in Brookhaven. Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge isin charge of arrangements with Riverwood Family Funeral Servicehandling local arrangements.

Mrs. Farrell, 99, died Nov. 12, 2009, at Ollie Steele BurdenManor.

She was a native of Brookhaven and a resident of Picayune beforemoving to Louisiana, where for 39 years she gave her best to thedevelopment and promotion of library service in the state. MissFarrell received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the MississippiState College for Women, now Mississippi University for Women,where she was president of the student body. She received herBachelor of Science degree in library science, graduating cumlaude, from the University of Illinois. She was a member of theUniversity United Methodist Church and numerous cultural and civicorganizations. In 1971, she received the Essie Martha CulverDistinguished Service Award presented by the Louisiana LibraryAssociation.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William Henry Farrelland Ora Lee Johnson Farrell; and a brother, Harvey EmmettFarrell.

Survivors are her cousins, Phyllis Johnson Spearman, JoanJohnson Peyton, both of Brookhaven, and Jere Johnson Clark, ofHattiesburg; and her many other loving friends and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UniversityUnited Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
