WESSON – Co-Lin’s Latoria Holder pumped in 25 points, RachelVigers netted 22 points and Brandi Simmons added 11 points Thursdaynight to power the Lady Wolves to a 78-68 win over the NorthwestLady Ranges in Mullen Gymnasium.

In the men’s game, Marcus Hooten scored 23 points and DwayneBrown finished with 10 points in the Wolves’ tough 75-61 loss atthe hands of the Rangers.

Co-Lin travels to Delgado in New Orleans Tuesday night for atwin bill. The women begin play at 5 p.m. followed by the men at7.

Co-Lin 78, Northwest 68

The Lady Wolves (6-0) struggled from the floor with numerousturnovers and missed shots in the first half as the Lady Rangers(2-3) were on top 36-31 at the half.

“Northwest kept us spread out and were shooting three’s,” saidCo-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young after the win. “That’s theirgame plan.”

Northwest netted 10 treys to Co-Lin’s 4.

Co-Lin kicked off the start of the second half with a 14-3 runto take a 45-39 lead at the 14:25 mark. A trey from Holder and afield goal from Simmons pushed the hosts lead to 9 points,50-41.

Northwest chipped away at the Co-Lin lead and cut it to 2points, 58-56, with 7:35 remaining in the game. Nadia Collins hit apair of free throws and Holder launched a field goal to give theLady Wolves a 62-56 lead with six minutes left to play. The LadyRangers never got any closer as Co-Lin pushed its lead to 10 pointsat the end.

“It was good for us to play them,” added Young. “I’m glad weplayed good enough to win.”

Holder and Vigers were tops off the backboards for the LadyWolves with 9 rebounds apiece. Simmons followed with 7 rebounds.Rokeiya Adams had 6 assists. Simmons added 4 steals.

Northwest, coached by Don Edwards, got 20 points and 7 reboundsfrom Hope Adams. Netting 10 points apiece were Lanita Futrell andDe’Kisha Fondon. Grabbing 7 rebounds was Fondon.

Northwest 75, Co-Lin 61

The Rangers (4-1) jumped on the Wolves (2-4) in the first halfto take a 34-18 lead with 7:47 left. At halftime, Northwestcommanded a 51-36 lead over Co-Lin.

“Northwest is so athletic,” said Co-Lin men’s head coach DennisSims. “We made them look a lot better than they are. We just threwit (basketball) up.”

In the second half, the Wolves trimmed the deficit to 10 pointsseveral times but could not capitalize on the Rangers’ coldshooting spells.

On the backboards, Hooten led the Wolves with 11 rebounds. Brownfinished with 7 rebounds.

Powering Coach Jimmy Adams’ Rangers was Akeem Anderson with 14points and 6 rebounds. Netting 13 points was Justin Gillard. ReggieBrown scored 12 points and led off the backboards with 14rebounds.
