Mary Edwards Dickson

Graveside services for Mary Edwards Dickson, of Hot Springs,Ark., formerly of Dearborn, Mich., were 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9,at Hinds Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Nesbit. GrossFuneral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dickson, 86, died Dec. 5, 2009. She was born in Louisville,Ky., to Dr. Oliver Patteson and Mary Virginia Edwards Miller.

She attended the University of Kentucky and the University ofLouisville earning her degree in social work. As a social worker,she found adoptive homes for children. She had many interests andwas a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Questers,Rotary Ann’s of Rotary International and both the Michigan and HotSprings Garden Clubs. Having traveled around the world with herhusband, she always said Wales, Ireland, and Hong Kong were herfavorites. Due to their travels, they spent more anniversaries outof the country than in the states. She was a member of Hot Springs’First United Methodist Church.

Survivors are her husband of 60 years, Joe A. Dickson; adaughter, Jean Dickson Dahms, of North Little Rock, Ark.; and hertwo grandchildren.

Gary Delane Smith

Services for Gary Delane Smith, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Thursday, Dec. 10, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel inBrookhaven with burial in Oakgrove Pentecostal Church Cemetery inLawrence County.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Smith, 62, died Dec. 8, 2009, at his residence. He was bornon Aug. 8, 1947, to Oscar Othell Smith Sr. and Eve Nell SmithBritt.

He was a welder at Smith Machine and Welding. He served in theU.S. National Guard. Mr. Smith was a member of Charity BaptistChurch.

Preceding him in death were his father, Oscar Othell Smith Sr.;his mother, Eve Nell Smith Britt; and an infant son, Timothy DelaneSmith.

Survivors are his wife, Lora Faye Smith; his sons, Gary PaulSmith and wife, Karen, and Tracey Smith and wife, Wyna, all ofBrookhaven; his stepfather, Perry Britt, of Brookhaven; hisbrothers, Roger Dale Smith and wife, Lynnette, Oscar Othell SmithJr. and wife, Beth, all of Brookhaven, and Teddy Smith; and hisfour grandchildren, Ty Smith, Cody Abadie, Clay Smith and KellySmith, all of Brookhaven.
