Wesson sweeps BC

WESSON – For the second game in a row, Wesson forward TylerLumley came through for the Cobras. Tuesday night, Lumley, a6-foot-4 senior, pumped in 30 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and madefour steals to lead the Cobras in a 70-64 win over the Bogue ChittoBobcats in varsity basketball action.

In the varsity girls game, senior guard/forward Ann Shelby Davisfired in 20 points, pulled down eight rebounds, made three stealsand had four assists to direct the Lady Cobras in a 52-49 victoryover the previously unbeaten Lady ‘Cats.

Wesson hosts Brookhaven Tuesday, Dec. 15, for 3 games, startingwith a junior varsity boys game at 5 p.m. followed by the varsitygirls at 6 and the boys at 7:30.

Bogue Chitto begins play Thursday in the 3-day Lincoln CountyRound-Robin Tournament at Enterprise. The ‘Cats meet the EnterpriseYellow Yellow Jackets at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Loyd Star and West Lincolntangle at 4 and 5:30.

Wesson 70, Bogue Chitto 64

The Wesson boys (2-6) carried a 16-point lead, 52-36, over BogueChitto (5-5) heading into the final frame. The Bobcats outscoredthe Cobras 28-18 down the stretch but couldn’t tie the game.

“We had a good, fast start,” said Wesson boys coach Ron Kesslerafter the win. “We got after them early. I’m proud of them. This isour second win of the season. It was a big game for Tyler.”

The Cobras took a 12-0 led in the opening minutes over theBobcats and led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter. At halftime,Wesson commanded a 38-22 lead.

The Bobcats, under first-year coach Jeremy Harrell, got 19points and 14 rebounds from Justin London. Javier Gee netted 12points.

Wesson 52, Bogue Chitto 48

The girls game was close. Wesson (8-3) and Bogue Chitto (9-1)were deadlocked 9-all in the first quarter. The Cobras went intothe locker room at the half with a 27-21 lead. Going into the finalframe, Bogue Chitto had trimmed Wesson’s lead to 2 points,35-33.

The Cobras outscored the ‘Cats 17-16 to preserve the 3-pointwin.

“I really thought Macie Case (17 points) did a great job lastnight,” said Wesson girls coach Hugh Webb. “Ann Shelby Davis did agood job. She has played well.

“Bogue Chitto has a good defense,” added Webb. ” Christi(Terrell) does a great job with Bogue Chitto. Overall, I waspleased with the girls performance.”

Contributing off the backboards in the Wesson win was ShauntayWalker with 12 rebounds.

The ‘Cats were led by Darcy Miller with a game-high 21 points.Josie Porter netted 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. TeareonRogers grabbed 8 rebounds.

Junior varsity action

The Wesson girls knocked off Bogue Chitto 35-25. Leading theLady Cobras with 12 points was Dayanara McManus. Brenda McInnis andSara Robinson netted 10 apiece.

The ‘Cats got 13 points from Mattie Avants and 7 fromEarlnoeshina Dillon.

The Bobcats crushed the Cobras 51-31. Dennis Rogers sparkedBogue Chitto with 18 points, Edi Holmes followed with 13points.

Wesson was led by Austin Crow with 7 points. Following with 6each were Peyton Hood and Enrique Smith.
