Perhaps the third time will be the charm if Lincoln Countysupervisors opt to again rename the community’s agriculturalfacility on Beltline Road.

The first name, the Lincoln County Multi-Purpose Facility, wasdeemed to not be reflective of all the varied activities -including weddings and reunions – the place can host. Now thesecond name, the Lincoln Center, has attracted the attention of NewYork’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which contends thelocal facility name infringes on the Big Apple center’strademark.

Well, what can we call our place now? Or should we change thename at all?

Simply referring to it as ‘the Linc’ won’t work because there’sa football stadium in Philadelphia with that nickname – short forLincoln Financial Field.

In its early days, the local facility was derisively referred toas the ‘cow palace.’ Even that won’t work, because there’s a morenoted entertainment venue by that name in San Francisco – and theirfolks would likely claim trademark infringement, too.

Some kind of acronym could be used here.

How about Lincoln BEAUTY, which would stand for Lincoln Bovine,Equestrian, Agriculture, Utilitarian and Trade Yard?

The formal title would be quite cumbersome, although it wouldcover all the bases of center services. But rugged cowboy typesprobably would not want to be associated with a facility with’beauty’ in the title, so that name’s out.

Lincoln Place has a nice ring to it. That would allow it tosimply be called “The Place,” as in the place for … oh, just fillin the blank.

Well, we’re open to suggestions, and supervisors probably aretoo.
