Wesson man killed in Wed. night accident

Copiah County officials said a Wednesday night wreck took thelife of a Wesson man.

Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart said Wesley Jackson, 29, of1164 Case Road, Wesson, was killed when his vehicle left MadduxRoad and crossed Interstate 55.

“It was a one-vehicle accident, and it wasn’t actually onInterstate 55,” Stuart said. “Maddux Road dead-ends into 55, and heran into the road and hit some trees.”

Chief Deputy Tony Hemphill said when Jackson’s vehicle left theroad, the impact proved fatal.

“The vehicle ended up on the shoulder of I-55, and he perishedin the accident,” Hemphill said.

Stuart said from what he could tell, Jackson may not have knownthat the intersection was ahead.

“Apparently he didn’t,” he said. “I don’t know.”

Officials said Jackson is being sent to the Mississippi StateCrime Lab in Jackson for autopsy.

His arrangements are incomplete, and are being handled byStringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, Stuart said.
