The Lincoln Center will remain the Lincoln Center for theremainder of 2009 after supervisors on Monday planned furtherdiscussions on the facility and its New York City critics.

Supervisors scheduled a joint meeting with the Lincoln CenterCommission in early January to decide whether or not to rename thefacility, which has come under fire by the Lincoln Center for thePerforming Arts in NYC for possible trademark infringement.Supervisors only recently approved the commission’s recommendationto change the name to Lincoln Center from Lincoln CountyMulti-Purpose Facility to better reflect the variety of programsoffered there.

“It was their desire to do it and y’all are the ones who get topay for it, so I suggest you have a joint meeting,” board attorneyBob Allen told supervisors during Monday’s meeting.

Renaming the Lincoln Center in October was the latest step inthe facility’s growth and expansion, designed to make it moremarketable to shows and programs beyond the normal livestock andagricultural events hosted there.

But in a detailed and self-aggrandizing letter to supervisorssent earlier this month, LCPA officials from New York orderedsupervisors to rename the local facility because use of the nameLincoln Center “impair(s) the goodwill associated with our name”and “is an encroachment upon our rights.”
