MAGNOLIA — South Pike center Devantre Cook slammed home afollow shot in the last 1.5 seconds of the game and lifted theEagles to a thrilling 67-65 Tuesday night comeback victory overLoyd Star in the South Pike Tournament semifinals. South Pikeerased a 47-39 third-quarter deficit and handed the Hornets theirfirst loss in 12 games.

Loyd Star plays North Pike in a 4 p.m. consolation game today.South Pike plays archrival McComb in the championship finalstonight.

Loyd Star’s girls lost 65-28 to North Pike in Tuesday’sconsolation bracket as Olivia Kennedy poured in 20 points for theLady Jaguars. Kaylin Hughes added 13 points.

The Hornets (11-1) got a game-high 28 pointsfrom Glenn Thomas in a losing cause. DeAndre Butler added 20 pointsand 10 rebounds. Joseph Shelby had 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2steals. McKinley Hamilton had 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

“We turned the ball over a few times and we got in foultrouble,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt, recallingthe fourth quarter. “I thought we outplayed them most of the game.We played hard.”

Loyd Star forged a 14-point lead in the second quarter and led29-19 at halftime.

“South Pike has a good team,” said Britt. “They are big inside.They’ve lost to McComb twice.”

Trevosity Ellzey scored 18 points for South Pike and TrelynPounds added 17

The Lady Hornets (1-11) got 12 points, 10rebounds and 2 blocked shots from center Tyrisha Patterson. ForwardCourtney Watts, playing her second game since recovering from kneesurgery, netted 11 points. Anna Brooks had 7 rebounds and LeahBritt 6. Britt also had 4 steals and 3 assists.

“North Pike has a good team,” said Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn.”We are playing just a half. We have to figure out how to play acomplete game.”

North Pike sacked five treys in a 25-point fourth quarter.
