Lincoln County’s fight with the renaissance men in New York Cityover the name of the local Lincoln Center could be resolved nextweek when supervisors meet with the center commission to discussnames for the facility.

Lincoln Center Manager Quinn Jordan said three possibilitiesexist for the name of the facility, which was renamed from LincolnCounty Multi-Purpose Facility last year.

The first option would be to retain the name and face a legalbattle with the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, which is threatening a trademark suit over the name “LincolnCenter”; the second option would be to rename the facility; and thethird option would be to add more words onto the existing name, asin “Lincoln Center of Mississippi.”

Jordan said the third option seems best so far. Whatever name isselected will likely be one tailored to avoid a legal battle withLCPA, he said.

“That fight could cost from $5,000 to $10,000,” Jordan said. “Ifeel like we will look at the financial impact … and make thebest decision possible in these tough economic times, instead ofjust throwing good money away.”
