John Dickson ‘Dick’ Jordan

Mr. John Dickson “Dick” Jordan, of Bermuda Run, N.C., passedaway Jan. 2, 2010, at Bermuda Village.

Dick was born Dec. 13, 1922, in McCall Creek. He was the son ofthe late Robert Burton and Bessie Steward Jordan.

Dick was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where heplayed football. He played in the Sugar Bowl in 1943. He thenserved in World War II as a bomber pilot in the 391st BombardmentGroup. Dick returned to the University of Tennessee after the warto finish his education and played in the Orange Bowl in 1947.

He was called back into service during the Korean War and was ina MASH unit. After discharge from the Army, he worked for 25 yearsfor Ralston Purina as a district manager.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Wesley Jordan;his children, Cheryl Marshbanks (John), of Boone, N.C., Julee Rose(Bill), of Winston-Salem, N.C., John Jordan, of Carrboro, N.C., andBurt Jordan, of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren and 13great-grandchildren.
