Leo P. Basco

Leo P. Basco, of Brookhaven, “a friend to all he ever met, afaithful father and grandfather, and a loving husband to his wifeof 19 years,” died on Jan. 26, 2010, at Mississippi Baptist MedicalCenter in Jackson.

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at New Sight Baptist Churchin Brookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Community FuneralServices is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the church, and onSunday from 12:30 until the time of the service.

Mr. Basco, 75, was born in Cloutieville, La., on Aug. 7, 1934,to Johnnie Basco and Corine Cannon Basco.

He worked for over 45 years in the oilfield with E.C. Mapp andCallon Petroleum. He attended college, and was a veteran of theU.S. Air Force. He was a member of New Sight Baptist Church, and apast member of the Gideons International. He faithfully served theLord in various ministries over the past 42 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Stella M.Basco; his brother, Earl Ray Basco; and two grandchildren, Levi andJayden Vanosdol.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley Sykes Basco, of Brookhaven; hisdaughters, Pamela Davis and husband Rick, of Monticello, and PaulaChafin, of Waynesboro; his sons, Josh Smith, and Tad Smith and wifeScarlette, all of Brookaven; his brother, Johnnie Basco, ofLouisiana; his sister, Lillie Basco Munn, of Louisiana; hissister-in-law, Diane Basco, of Arkansas; and his grandchildren,Suzanne, Samantha, Paul, Gavyn, Samuel and Kayleigh Rials, GrantDavis, Brayden Lambert, Sawyer Chafin, Kyra Hall, Maycie Smith,Lexi Vanosdol, Jeremy Smith, Josh Smith, Mallory Smith, ChloeySmith, Manda Smith, Darrin Smith and Jacob Freeman.

Services for Hugh Belton Sr., of Brookhaven, are 3 p.m.Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church inBrookhaven with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. R.E. Tyler FuneralHome is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 8 p.m. at the funeral home,with family present from 7 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Belton, 81, died Jan. 25, 2010, at the Michael E. DeBakey VAMedical Center in Houston, Texas. He was born in Lincoln County onApril 19, 1928, to Odell Belton and Mamie Harrington Belton.

He was a self-employed barber for 45 years. He was a member U.S.Army veteran.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his sister,Margaret Fairman.

Survivors are his sons, Hugh Belton Jr., of Duncanville, Texas,and Victor Sanders, of Killeen Texas; his daughters, KatrinaWilliams, of Pearland, Texas, Brenda Belton, of Houston, Texas, andLisa Sanders, of Seoul, Korea; his brother, James Belton, of LosAngeles, Calif.; his seven grandchildren and threegreat-grandchildren.
