Marie Cotten Lenoir

Services for Marie Cotten Lenoir, of Meadville, were held onMonday, Feb. 15, at Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church, withburial in the church cemetery. Catchings Funeral Home in McComb wasin charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lenoir, 83, died Feb. 12, 2010, at Mississippi Baptist MedicalCenter in Jackson. She was born in Lincoln County on Nov. 18, 1926,to Ted Burns and Lillian Hayes Burns.

She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Middleton CreekPrimitive Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, J.W. QuentinCotten and Richard Lenoir; her brothers, Bill Burns and CliftonBurns; and one grandson, Kevin Howell.

Survivors are her sons, James Cotten, of Meadville, and BarryCotten, of Tennille, Ga.; her daughters, Bonna Smith, of McComb,and Sheila Smith, of Meadville; her brothers, Troy Burns, of Pearl,and Ronnie Burns, of Bogue Chitto; her sisters, Lavonne Laird andAlvie Myers, of Brookhaven, Teddy Perere, of Plaquemine, La., andLucille Hicks, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her 10 grandchildren, 15great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

James Wendell Lewis

James Wendell Lewis, 64, of McComb, died Feb. 16, 2010, at hishome, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Lewis was born Dec. 8,1945, in Walthall County to J.C. and Helen Owens Lewis.

He was the owner of Hillside Grocery and Service for many years andworked at Dickerson and Bowen Inc. as the McComb plant shopforeman. He was a vital part of his sons’ company, Lewis WreckerInc. and enjoyed being there daily after his retirement. He was amember of South McComb Baptist Church.

Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, IldaGay Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rita Martin Lewis, ofMcComb; three daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Tommy Young,Mikki and Kerry Prine, and Suzi Johnson, all of McComb; two sonsand daughters-in-law, Ricky and DeLene Lewis, and Marti and ShannonLewis, all of McComb; his sister and brother-in-law, Eloise andPaul Etheridge, of McComb; three granddaughters, Samantha Johnson,Stephanie Prine and Jayci Johnson; eight grandsons, Ethan Young,Aaron Lewis, Zac Lewis, Blake Brock, Jay Johnson, Barron Lewis,Corbin Johnson and Joey Prine, all of McComb and numerous family,nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 17, at South McComb Baptist Churchfrom 5 until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until services at 10a.m. with the Rev. Brent Rutland and the Rev. Ron West officiating.Burial will be in Pike Memorial Gardens, with Hartman-SharkeyFuneral Home in McComb in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Ricky Lewis, Marti Lewis, Jeff Etheridge, TommyYoung, Kerry Prine and Albert Johnson. Honorary pallbearers areMilford Etheridge Paul Etheridge, Ben Etheridge, Bobbie Martin,Junior Wilson and Andrae Miriaya.

Minnie Delores ‘Puff’ Sanders

Services for Minnie Delores “Puff” Sanders, 39, of Wesson, are 11a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church inBrookhaven, with burial in Little Rock Church Cemetery in Wesson.Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeralhome.

She died Feb. 14, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Feb. 4, 1971, to Jerome Fields and MinnieFields.

She was a graduate of Brookhaven High School. She was disabled. Shewas a member of St. Luke M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her grandfather, R.T. Sanders; hergrandmother, Flora B. Fields; and her cousin, Terry King.

Survivors are her mother, Minnie Fields, of Wesson; her father,Jerome Fields and wife Twanda, of Summit; her brothers, Keith C.Sanders and wife Cassandra, of Wesson, and Jacorrian Fields andTrevellous “Trey” Newsome, both of Summit; her sisters, JoyceNelson, of Wesson, Malrissa Howard, of Brookhaven, Yalanda Johnson,of Carson, and Kenyatta Newsome, of Snellville, Ga.; and manyaunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Zachary Lane Slaton

Services for Zachary Lane Slaton, of Canton, are 2 p.m. Thursday,Feb. 18, at First United Methodist Church with burial in the CantonCemetery. Breeland Funeral Home in Canton is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5until 8 p.m., and on Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.

Mr. Slaton, 52, died Feb. 16, 2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson MemorialHospital in Jackson.

He was a 1976 High Honor graduate of Canton Academy and a 1981graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor ofBusiness Administration degree and was a member of the Kappa AlphaOrder. He began his banking career at Trustmark Bank in Madison in1986 and in 1989 began work for Citizens National Bank, which laterbecame Bankplus, where he served as Senior Vice President.

Lane was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. He wasan avid golfer and a member of the Canton Country Club, where hewas a former board member. He was a longtime member of the CantonRotary Club, a member of the Canton Elks Lodge No. 458, and formerpresident of the Canton Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Marion Slaton Jr.,and stepfather, Jeff Davis Pace Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Bobbie O. Pace, of Canton; his sisterDeirdre S. Harris, and husband John, and Lane’s favorite niece,Anna Grace Harris, of Canton; his stepbrother, Dave Pace and wifeLilAnn, of Brookhaven; his stepsister, Cathy Jackson and husbandRobert, of Downsville, La.; his nephews, Davis Pace, Justin andHouston Gordon; and his niece Jesse Pace.

Joey Dion Smith

Services for Joey Dion Smith, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Friday,Feb. 19, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on Natchez Drive, withburial in Mt. Zion Church of Christ Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service atthe funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 30, died Feb. 16, 2010, in Fernwood. He was born in PikeCounty on Sept. 26, 1979.

He was a graduate of Brookhaven High School. He was employed withGeorgia Gulf in Gallman. He was a member of the Baptistfaith.

Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Myrtis Redd Laird; andhis grandfathers, Grover C. Smith and Lennox Dillon.

Survivors are his father, Carroll Lester Smith, of Brookhaven; hismother, Margaret Dillon Reardon, and her husband James, ofSmithdale; his brother, Chris “Elvis” Smith, of Brookhaven; hisgrandmother, Lee Williams, of Brookhaven; and a host of cousins andfriends.

Lillian Lorraine Woods Stanford

Services for Lillian Lorraine Woods Stanford, of Wesson, are 2 p.m.Thursday, Feb. 18, at Clear Branch Baptist Church in Brookhavenwith burial in the church cemetery. Community Funeral Services isin charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home,and on Thursday at the church from noon until the time of theservice.

Mrs. Stanford, 68, died Feb. 15, 2010, at Hospice Ministries inRidgeland. She was born in Copiah County on April 26, 1941, toMedford Eugene Woods and Mary Ellen Goza Woods.

She was a homemaker, and a very special mother and friend. She wasa faithful member of Clear Branch Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, WayneStanford; and her sister, Patricia Ann Woods.

Survivors are her daughters, Rebecca Ann Rushing Dominique, ofWesson; her brothers, Hiram Glen Woods, of Huntsville, Ala., andMeredith Bryant Woods Sr., of Pearl; her grandchildren, ChristyLynn Thedford, Chauncy R. Thedford and Tekina N. Thedford Graham;her great-grandchildren, Harley, Thomas, Aleghia, Hailey, Becky,T.J., Britney, Merandia, Devin, Justin, Stephanie, Tye andZack.

The family gives a special “thank you” to Clear Branch BaptistChurch pastor and friends; to Pete Stanley for all the love andcare given; to Ridgeland Hospice Ministries in Jackson – thanks forthe care, support and comfort given to Lorraine from the pain ofcancer; and to anyone else who had a part in care, support ordonations given for travel to and from doctors.
