MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Lady Wovles won three out of five gamesFriday and Saturday in the Meridian Tournament. NJCAA Division IICo-Lin played five Division I opponents from Alabama.

Co-Lin (6-3) defeated L.B. Wallace 4-2, Central Alabama 4-2 andBevill State 4-2. Bevill State beat Co-Lin 1-0 in the first gameand Shelton State clipped Co-Lin 5-3.

Co-Lin hosts East Mississippi Thursday for its first home games ofthe season. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.

“It was a very good weekend for us against some very strongDivision I JUCOs,” said Co-Lin softball coach Allen Kent. “Thetough competition should really pay off in the long run. We areanxious to play our first home dates this week.”

Bevill State 1, Co-Lin 0

Bevill scored its unearned run in the fourth to take the win.

Co-Lin starter Bethany Pinkston worked 5 innings and gave up 3 hitson 4 strikeouts. Terri Hodges returned from knee surgery to playsecond base and pitch the final inning.

“We hit the ball harder as a team than they did, but every ball wedid hit hard seemed to be right at someone,” said Kent.

Co-Lin 4, L.B. Wallace 2

In the Lady Wolves’ first victory of the tourney,

Hodges started in the circle and went 4.2 innings with 3 hitsallowed, 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. Pinkston took over in the fifthas Wallace rallied to tie the game in the seventh.

Dee Dee Walker homerd in third to give Co-Lin a 1-0 lead.

In the international tiebreaker 8th inning, Co-Lin’s Monea Cameronhit a 1-out RBI single for a 2-1 lead. With 2 out, freshman HaleySones smashed an opposite-field, 2-run homer, give the Lady Wolvesa 4-1 lead.

Pinkston grabbed the win, going 3.2 innings on 3 hits, 6 strikeoutsand no walks.

Daniele Wilson was 2-for-3 with a walk for Co-Lin. Singling wereHolli Smith, Kayla Coleman, Sones and Hodges.

“It was a good win against a quality club,” said Kent. “We bouncedright back after they tied it up and took over somemomentum.”

Co-Lin 4, Central Alabama 2

The winner in the circle was Pinkston with 2 hits allowed, 12strikeouts and 2 walks. This was Co-Lin’s first win over CentralAlabama in five games.

“Bethany had a few more walks than we would normally like, but shepicked her spots, dodged a few bullets and really kept them offbalance,” added Kent.

In the first inning, Co-Lin took a 2-0 lead. Walker, Lakin Lockhartand Cameron drew walks. Holli Smith followed with an RBI groundoutand Lockhart later scored on a passed ball.

Casey Risher and Walker led off with back-to-back singles.Following a sacrifice bunt by Lockhart, Wilson and Cameroncontributed RBI singles.

Walker and Wilson had 2 hits each. Sones singled.

Shelton State 5, Co-Lin 3

Hodges absorbed the loss, going 5.1 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4earned runs. Pinkston finished with 4 strikeouts in 1.2innings.

Ripping a 2-RBI home run, a single and collecting a walk wasHodges. Holli Smith doubled and singled. Walker doubled andsingled. Sones, Lockhart and Wilson hit safely.

“We left six runners stranded and made three base running mistakeson mental breakdowns,” said Kent.

Co-Lin 4, Bevill State 2

Co-Lin avenged the Friday loss to Bevill State.

Pinkston fanned 13 batters, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs andimproved her record to 6-2.

In the second inning, Sones was hit by a pitch and advanced on aCameron single. Kayla Coleman sacrificed to center for a 1-0lead.

Fifth-inning action saw Coleman and Lockhart drop back to backsingles. Walker singled up the middle to score 2 runs for a 3-0lead.

Bevill added a run in the top of the sixth as Co-Lin came back witha run in the sixth for a 4-1 lead. Bevill scored 1 run in theseventh to cut the Co-Lin lead to 4-2.

Smith doubled and singled for the Lady Wolves. Cameron added a pairof hits.
