Co-Lin takes two from Delta Trojans

WESSON – Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Co-LinWolves trailed the Mississippi Delta Trojans 10-9. With one out andrunners on first and second base, sophomore outfielder JeffDeBlieux came to the plate and smashed a 3-run home run to give theWolves a 13-10 win and a sweep in a doubleheader with the TrojansTuesday at chilly Sullivan Stadium.

In the first game, the Wolves held off Trojans to capture a 3-2win.

Co-Lin (3-5) hosts Coahoma for a twinbill Saturday. The first gamebegins at 1 p.m.

“I am glad for the guys,” said Co-Lin head baseball coach KeithCase after the wins. “We are close to being a real good ball club.We have several close losses.

Co-Lin 13, Miss. Delta 10

“He (MD pitcher Tee Alias) threw it right down the middle,” said ahappy DeBlieux following the win. “This is the best feeling in theworld. This was our first sweep of the season.”

Case was pleased with DeBlieux’s performance. Besides the 3-runhomer, the Homa, La. native added a pair of singles in the secondgame.

“Jeff is a great person and a great student,” added Case.

Co-Lin exploded for 3 runs in the bottom of the third to tie thegame at 3-all. In the top of the fourth, the Trojans added a pairof runs for a brief 5-3 lead before the Wolves answered with 3 runsin the bottom to take an 8-5 lead.

In the fourth, Co-Lin added a single run to push its lead to 9-5.Miss. Delta exploded for 5 runs in the top of the sixth for a 10-9lead.

Reliever Andrew Lee (1-0) got the win after taking over in thefifth inning. Lee struck out 1 batter and allowed 1 hit. StarterRyan Kennedy worked the first 2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits,3 walks and 1 hit batter. Drew Weaver worked the next 2 innings,finishing with 4 runs allowed on 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and nowalks.

Contributing to the Co-Lin win was Connor Oakes with a triple.Edmund Cheatham singled twice. Hitting safely were Luke Brumfield,Bud Britt, Kendall Logan and Ryne Tutor.

Alias took the loss allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and nowalks. Alias replaced starter Josh Absher who worked the first 4innings with 8 runs allowed on 5 hits, 3 walks and 2strikeouts.

For the Trojans, Houston Bolden led with a homer and a single. ChadWooten tripled and singled. Singling were Davin Riebock, HoustonPurpora, Spencer Brunson, Brett White and Sam Phshom.

Co-Lin 3, Miss. Delta 2

Collecting the win for the Wolves was starter Preston Edwards (1-0)in 5.2 innings with 2 runs allowed on 5 hits, 6 strikeouts and 3walks. In the sixth, Weaver faced 1 batter before Mitch Tidwelltook over and allowed 1 hit and 1 run for the save.

“He (Edwards) pitched well,” said Case.

Bo Craig went the distance for Miss. Delta in the loss with 3 runsallowed on 10 hits, and 2 strikeouts.

Logan led the Wolves with a double and a single. DeBlieux doubled.Matthew Freeman singled twice. Cable McMinn, Chris Fink andCheatham hit safely.

Boulden paced the Trojans with a pair of singles.
