Dr. Daniel Gay “Da” Martindale, 67, of Monticello, passed awayon Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2010, after a courageous battle withleukemia.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, from 1 until 3 p.m. atMonticello United Methodist Church, Monticello. A memorial servicewill be held at 3 p.m. at Monticello United Methodist Church.Interment will follow in the Monticello Municipal Cemetery.

He was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Oct. 27, 1942, to the late Gayand Lois Martindale. He attended Mississippi State University andreceived a Doctorate of Dental Science from Loyola University inNew Orleans, La. After dental school, he moved to Monticello andopened his dental office, where he practiced for more than 40years.

He was an avid hot air balloon pilot and a member of theMid-Mississippi Balloon Association. He was a member of MonticelloUnited Methodist Church where he enjoyed cooking dinner for theMethodist Men’s group and at the time of his death was chair of thetrustees. He was a member of the Mississippi Academy of GeneralDentistry, the American Dental Association and the MississippiDental Association. He believed in helping others and took severaldental mission trips to Honduras, Belize, Mexico and New Orleansfor post Katrina dental care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gay and Lois Martindale,wife, Robin Bowers Martindale, and adoptive mother, Dorothy C.O’Neill.

Survivors include wife, Susan Palmertree Martindale; daughtersPaige Martindale Duck (Samuel), of Maryville, Tenn., WinifredMartindale Beech (Craig), of Corinth, Danielle Martindale Miller(Jamie), of Flowood, and Addie Martindale (Jeremy Rushing), ofPensacola, Fla.; beloved grandchildren, Kanton Miller, CamronBeech, Mary Robin Miller, Nathan Duck, Lauren Beech, Bekah Duck andRylee Martindale-Rushing; adoptive father, George K. O’Neill, ofBartlett, Tenn.; sisters, Patricia O’Neill Frost (Marvin), ofRinggold, Ga., and Nanci C. O’Neill Lima (Ed), of Hanford, Calif.;and special friend, Maggie Baggett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LawrenceCounty Relay for Life, c/o Monticello United Methodist Church orMonticello United Methodist Church, Box 87, Monticello, MS39654.

Dr. Martindale left one final message, “Life is short! Whatever inlife is dessert to you, check it out first!”

The family expresses their appreciation to the doctors, nurses andstaff of the Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello, and theUniversity of Mississippi Medical Center Bone Marrow TransplantUnit in Jackson. The family would also like to express theirappreciation to the nurses of St. Luke Home Health.
