Imogene ‘Gene’ Black Gordy

Imogene “Gene” Black Gordy, 79, of Hazlehurst, died on Feb. 23,2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, at Stringer FamilyFuneral Home in Hazlehurst and from 1 p.m. until the time of theservice at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Hazlehurst UnitedMethodist Church, with burial in Hazlehurst Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Marks to Judge E.C. and VeloraBlack.
Ms. Gordy graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with adegree in Education. After many years in the public school systemshe took a position with the Adult Education division ofCopiah-Lincoln Community College. She continued to tutorindividuals even as her health was declining. Ms. Gordy served as ayouth leader in the Hazlehurst United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Brown, of Brookhaven;Sheri Todd, of Southaven; Janet Aguilar, of Hazlehurst; her son,Fred Gordy Jr., of Douglasville, Ga.; as well as 10 grandchildrenand four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made inher memory to the youth programs of either Hazlehurst UnitedMethodist Church of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst.
