Co-Lin salvages split with Delta’s Trojans

MOOREHEAD – The Co-Lin Wolves split a baseball doubleheaderFriday with the Mississippi Delta Trojans. The Wolves won theopener 13-8 and dropped the finale 9-6.

Co-Lin (6-8) entertains the Hibbing (Minn.) Cardinals Monday atSullivan Field for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1p.m.

“We got down two runs early, but we battled back,” said Co-Linhead coach Keith Case. “We had 19 hits and scored 13 runs. We swungthe bats well.”

The winning pitcher was sophomore left-hander Jeff DeBlieux(2-0). In 5 innings, DeBlieux allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits,walked 4, struck out 1 batter and hit 1 batter. Andrew Lee workedthe final 2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits, 1 strikeoutand 1 walk.

Powering the Wolves at the plate was Luke Brumfield with adouble and 2 singles for 4 RBIs. Bud Britt followed with double and3 singles for 3 RBIs. DeBlieux doubled for 2 RBI. Also collecting adouble and a single for an RBI was Tyler Hue. Chris Fink singledtwice for an RBI. Also hitting 2 singles was Edmund Cheatam.

Absorbing the loss was Josh Absher with 10 runs allowed on 16hits, 4 strikeouts and no walks. Reliever Caleb Bradshaw worked thefinal inning and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits with no walks and nostrikeouts.

Delta’s Spencer Brunson ripped a home run for 3 RBIs. Doublingand singling was Hunter Bolder. Brett White doubled for 3 RBI.Justin White singled twice followed by Paul Mangialarbi with adouble.

“The biggest thing was we didn’t pitch well,” said Case. “And itall starts on the mound. The defense was on its heels. I didn’tlike the tempo.”

Craig Garrison went 5 innings for the win. Garrison allowed 6runs on 9 hits, struck out 1 and walked 1. Reliever Garrett Pickensallowed 2 hits and struck out 3.

The losing hurler was Marshun Hall who started and lasted 3.1innings. Hall (0-2) allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, struck out1 and walked 1.

Taking over for 1.2 innings was Drew Weaver with 3 runs (2earned) on 5 hits, no strikeouts and no walks. Finishing the final2 innings was Mitch Tidwell with 1 run allowed on 1 hit, 1strikeout and no walks.

Caleb McMinn drilled a 3-RBI home run for Co-Lin. Ripping adouble and a single was Matthew Freeman. Cheatam smashed a 2-RBIdouble. Kendall Logan singled twice. Ryan Tutor and DeBlieuxdoubled.

Boulder sparked the Trojans with a 2-RBI home run. Brunson andHunter Purpose each hit an RBI double.
