Lady Wolves manage split with East Central

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves came away with a split Wednesdayafternoon with the East Central Lady Warriors in South Divisionsoftball action. Co-Lin won the opener 4-3 in 8 innings and thenlost 7-6, to East Central in the finale.

Co-Lin (15-8, 2-2) travels to Gulf Coast at Perkinston Saturday fora twinbill, beginning at noon. East Central improved to 22-3-1 onthe season and 4-2 in division play.

The Wolves left a total of 18 base runners stranded in thedoubleheader.

Co-Lin 4, East Central 3

A 2-run home run by Co-Lin’s Daniele Wilson tied the game at 3-allat the end of seven innings. Under the extra-inning, internationaltiebreaker rules, East Central put a runner on first and sheadvanced to third on a sacrifice but. Winning pitcher BethanyPinkston fanned the next two batters to avoid any damage.

In the bottom of the eighth, Debra Hamor was sacrificed to third byHolli Smith. Terri Hodges delivered a game-winning single to leftfield.

“We outhit them 12-2, but left nine runners on base,” said Co-Linhead coach Allen Kent. “It was a good win against a very goodteam.”

Pinkston (15-2) fanned 13 batters, walked 4 and allowed 2 hit forthe win.

Daniele Wilson smashed a home run, a double and a single to leadthe Co-Lin batters. Haley Sones went 4-for-4, including a double.Lakin Lockhart and Hodges each added 2 singles.

East Central 7, Co-Lin 6

Three Co-Lin errors in the fifth allowed four East Central runs andcut the deficit to 5-4. In the seventh, the Warriors went up 7-5after adding 3 more runs. Co-Lin added a run in the bottom of theseventh to cut the lead to 7-6 and could not tie the game.

“It was a disappointing loss,” said Kent. “You can’t give a goodteam like that 6 runs in an inning.”

Pinkston (15-3) worked the second game for the loss with 6strikeouts and 5 walks.

At the plate for the Wolves, Hodges led with 2 doubles, a singleand 3 RBI. Sones doubled, singled twice and scored 2 runs. Dee DeeWalker doubled and singled. Lockhart had 2 singles and was walked.Smith added a single.
