Moore directs FCHS girls to final four appearance

MEADVILLE – Under coach Charles Moore, the Franklin County LadyBulldogs had another great year. His Bulldogs (23-5) captured theDistrict 7-3A crown, won the district tournament, were runners-upin South State and made the final four. They finished the seasonranked No. 4 in 3A statewide.

For his accomplishments, Moore has been named The DAILY LEADER’SCoach of the Year for the 20010 All-Area Girls BasketballTeam.

Moore also was the All-Area Coach of the Year for 2007-08seasons.

This season, the Lady Bulldogs finished 23-5.

“I an honored by it,” said Moore of being Area Coach of the Year.”It is an honor to be selected.”

Moore said he was confident in this year’s team.

“We knew we had a good core,” said Moore. “We had a good insideplayer, Cee Cee Miller, returning; Lenodra Shaw at point and EricaJenkins shooting outside. The young girls stepped up like VintriceBriggs at the post and KeKe Collins at the off guard. They bothbrought a lot of athleticism.”

Moore felt the girls had the talent to play on the court withanybody.

“We knew we would be able to competitive,” stated Moore. “We knewwe had a legitimate shot at being competitive statewide.”

Moore said beating a team like South Pike gave him an indication ofhow good his girls could be.

“We knew early in the season that if we beat a good South Piketeam, we would have a good season,” explained Moore. “Amite Countywas our challenger in our district. We sweep them.”

Moore said he appreciated the help from boys head coach ChrisJordan and assistant Rickey O’Quinn. Both bring different things tothe table. Jordan brings the experience and O’Quinn brings thepassion.

“I am proud of the girls,” added Moore. “This will be our thirddistrict title in four years. We went to south state every year andto the state tournament the last two of the four years.

“We are already looking forward to next year.”

Moore just completed his first year as FCHS athletic director.Moore also helped coach other sports in the past such as serving asassistant football coach to the Bulldogs until Franklin County wonits state title in 2006.

In the classroom, Moore teaches upper level math.

Moore is the son of Clinton M. and the late Betty L. Moore. He wasborn in Oklahoma and moved a lot with his other brothers and twosisters as his parents were in the military.

Moore spent his first year of school in Franklin County before hisfamily left the area. He returned for his sophomore, junior andsenior years as a Bulldog.

An all-around athlete, Moore played football (linebacker),basketball (guard) and baseball (first base). He was coached by thelate John Laird and Ed Zumbro Jr.

After graduating from high school, Moore attended and graduatedfrom Southern Miss with a bachelor’s degree in athleticadministration and secondary education. His masters’ degree is inadministration.

He and his wife, Joy, have been married for 28 years. They are theparents of Lindsey (25), Sam (21) and Jacob (12).

“We appreciated their support (administration) in girlsbasketball,” added Moore. “They supported us well this season. Wehad great fan support. It’s a big boost when we see people in thestands rooting for us.”
