Case, Hornets roar past Puckett Wolves

PUCKETT — Tyler Case struck out 12 batters and walked oneTuesday night as the Loyd Star Hornets shut out the Puckett Wolves10-0 in Region 6-2A baseball action. Case scattered four hits inthe 6-inning game.

“Tyler had a big night after a big wreck,” said Loyd Star bossJonathan Breakfield. Case was involved in a 3-vehicle mishap Mondayafternoon on Highway 550 but avoided serious injury. There were noserious injuries in the accident.

“Tyler threw a great game and we played good defense behind him,”Breakfield added. “It’s good to win the series opener.”

Loyd Star raised its record to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in the region.The Hornets host Puckett for a Friday doubleheader, starting at 5p.m.

First baseman Cody Smith hit a 3-run homer and a double, collectingfour RBIs in the Loyd Star victory. Smith’s homer came in thesixth, clearing the left-center field fence.

In the first inning, Loyd Star’s Marquis Hayes led off with a buntdown the third base line and stole second. Case was hit by a pitchand both runners advanced on a passed ball. Designated hitterTravis Keene followed with a 2-run double and the Hornets tookcontrol.

The Hornets erupted for five runs in the fourth and led 7-0.

Losing pitcher Peyton Vinson ( 2 K, 2 BB) allowed nine hits and hitthree batters.

Loyd Star won the JV game 19-0 over Puckett.
