Area Softball Teams In Action

MADSON — Loyd Star senior pitcher Brooke Delaughter hurled ano-hitter Thursday night and lead the Lady Hornet fastpitchsoftball team to an 18-0 win over the Madison St. Joseph LadyBruins in Region 6-2A action. Delaughter fanned 10 batters andwalked 1.

Loyd Star (12-6, 5-0) will host its tournament Saturday, includingBogue Chitto, Seminary and North Pike. Loyd Star meets Seminary inthe opener at 11 a.m.

Carrie Moak smashed 3 doubles for the for Coach Jan Delaughter’sHornets. Emily Smith and Leah Britt ripped 3 singles apiece.Doubling and singling was Delaughter. Karah Smith finished with adouble followed by Lauren Norton with a single.

Junior varsity action

Loyd Star stopped St. Joe 5-2. Bonnie Burks fanned 3 and walked 2for the win. Haley Smith and Halleigh Hux hit safely.

SUMMIT – The North Pike Jaguars defeated the Brookhaven LadyPanthers 13-8 Thursday night in fastpitch softball action.

Brianna Brister posted the win with 7 strikeouts and 11 walks.Madeline DeLaughter took the loss with 2 walks in 3.2 innings.Brooke Hosick worked the final 2.1 innings with 1 walk.

The Jags outhit the Panthers 17-3 at the plate. Brookhavencommitted 3 errors to North Pike’s 2.

Getting a hit each for Ole Brook were DeLaughter, Hosick and EmilyFreeman.

Summer Brown powered North Pike with a home run, a triple and asingle. Charneissa Gordon homered and doubled. Savannah Johnson andAlana Hopkins each doubled and singled. Hitting 3 singles wasKelsey Lord. Shelby Abdul-Hadi and Brister each singled twice.Rachel Kelly hit safely.

WESSON – Macie McQuage smashed 2 home runs Thursday night tolead the Wesson Lady Cobras to a 9-8 win district win over thePuckett Lady Wolves.

Wesson (8-5) visits Franklin County tonight for two games. Thejunior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at7.

The Cobras, coached by Jackie Johnson, got added support fromChristina Fink with a home run and a single. Shauntay Walkertripled and singled. Hitting safely were Marley McCardle, Mak Rialsand Summer Rials.

Mak Rials collected the win.

Wesson rallied for a 3-2 win over Puckett. Abbey Smith was thewinning hurler.
