A Brookhaven man is in critical condition at the University ofMississippi Medical Center after a Thursday night shooting at aBrookhaven nightclub.
Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said there was an altercationat a club called JB’s on South First Street just after theestablishment closed that resulted in the shooting of WillieBridges of Brookhaven. He was transported to King’s DaughtersMedical Center by personal vehicle, and was flown from there toUMC.
“Supposedly Mr. Bridges had gotten into it with some guys from theclub in the parking lot area,” Henderson said. “He went to get intohis vehicle and there was a gunshot, and Bridges told them, ‘You’rejust shooting in the air.’ Then there was another shot.”
Henderson said at that point Bridges got back into his vehicle andtold the people he was with that he’d been shot.
At this point no one has been taken into custody, Henderson said, though there are witnesses to be interviewed. He said his officershave not had a chance to speak with Bridges because he wastransported to Jackson.
“At this time we have not been able to talk to him, so theinvestigation is ongoing,” Henderson said. “We’ve got somewitnesses we’ll be talking to, and we do have the names of somepeople who were there that we won’t be releasing now.”
Henderson said there are no immediate indicators as to what theparking lot scuffle was about.
“We don’t know why at this time, but it’s still beinginvestigated,” he said. “We’ll release more information later onwhen we have it.”
