Services for Vernon Odell Holmes, of Tylertown, were 2 p.m.Sunday, April 18, at Capps Funeral Home Chapel in Tylertown withburial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Tommy Purvis andNell Maki will officiate.

Mr. Holmes, 83, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at Wesley MedicalCenter in Hattiesburg. He was born in Walthall County on March 23,1927, to the late Odell and Myrl Magee Holmes.

He was a member of Tylertown United Methodist Church and a retiredagent for the Illinois Central Railroad.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Ernestine Holmes, of Tylertown;two sons, Steve Holmes and wife, Janice, of Brookhaven, and MikeHolmes and wife, Denise, of Bogue Chitto; four grandchildren, BradHolmes and wife, Misty, of Brookhaven, Lacey Laird and husband,Justin, of Slidell, La., Lindsey Porter and husband, Jared, ofBrookhaven, and Steve Burns and wife, Stacey, of Brookhaven; sevengreat-grandchildren; several cousins; two stepdaughters, BarbaraAshley, of Brookhaven, and Karen Ward, of Florence; and threestepgrandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jay Stewart, Brad Holmes, Jared Porter, JustinLaird, Steve Burns and Austin Burns.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Pigott, Louis Crawford, JamesBruister, Frank Holmes, and the men of the O’Quin Sunday SchoolClass.
