Enterprise girls shave Loyd Star

Freshman pitcher Taylor Nelson pitched a 4-hitter and Enterprisecapitalized on three Loyd Star errors to beat the host Lady Hornets2-1 in Division 6-2A fastpitch softball action. Nelson struck outfour batters and walked three as a large crowd watched the LadyJackets score the winning run in the fourth inning.
Enterprise (18-7-1, 6-2), runner-up to Loyd Star (16-7, 7-1) in thedivision race, scored once in the top of the first.
“We knew that it was going to be a war,” said Enterprise boss SteveSasser. “It was a hard-fought game and we had a total team effort.Nelson pitched an excellent game.”
Sasser’s girls played flawless defense in support of Nelson.
Loyd Star, the defending state champion, and Enterprise bothadvance to next week’s state playoffs. Enterprise will host aplayoff game April 30 and Loyd Star will travel for the openinggame of the best-of-three series.
At the plate, Kaitlyn Moak led Enterprise with two singles. KarlaBeth Hux and Ashley Greer singled.
“We just made too many errors and we didn’t hit the ball,” saidLoyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “That was the difference in thegame. Enterprise played a good game.
“Hopefully our bats will come around before the playoffs begin,”she added. The Hornets host Bogue Chitto Thursday for SeniorNight.
Carrie Moak doubled and singled for Loyd Star. Leah Britt andpitcher Brooke Delaughter singled.
Delaughter also hurled a 4-hitter. She fanned seven batters andwalked none.
Junior Varsity Action
Enterprise whipped Loyd Star 14-1 in the preliminary JV game asHannah Moak (6 K, 2 BB) pitched the victory. Haley Smith had LoydStar’s only hit.
The Jackets got two singles apiece from Nicole Rutland and Moak.Dallas Coon, Hannah Kirtfield, Kayla Britt, Lauren McCaffrey andAshley Boyd singled.
