Bulldogs nip Loyd Star

MERIDIAN – A 2-out infield single in the bottom of the seventhinning lifted the Enterprise-Clarke Bulldogs to a narrow 3-2Thursday night victory over the Loyd Star Hornets in the openinground of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs. The Hornets werelimited to just three hits by Bulldog pitchers.

Loyd Star (21-7) hosts Enterprise-Clarke (15-6) tonight a 7 onSmith Field. A third game, if necessary, would be played Saturdayat Enterprise.

Losing pitcher Tyler Case (9 K, 5 BB) gave up six hits.

Jeremy Kidd picked up the win in relief of Tyler Copeland.

“We played pretty good and they played really good,” said Loyd Starcoach Jonathan Breakfield. “It was a pitching duel. I thought Tylerbattled and pitched a good game. We will have to come out swingingthe bats Friday and get some hits.”

The Hornets got a 2-out, 2-RBI single from designated hitter TravisKeene in the first inning. Leebo Bairfield and T.J. Floyd singledfor Loyd Star.
