Walk-off homer pushes Forest past Franklin Co.

FOREST – DeHendret Collins started Game 3 against Forest Tuesdaynight a lot like he started Game 2: launching a 2-run homer thatset the tone early for his club. But Forest’s Bearcats answered theBulldogs and won the best-of-three series just like they did inGame 1 with a walk-off home run by Nathan Reynolds in the seventhfor a 6-4 victory.

Franklin County ends its season 15-11 overall.

Reynolds collected the win for Forest on the mound.

FCHS senior Hunter Hatcher suffered the loss, going all seveninnings and striking out five.

At the plate the Bulldogs got singles from Colton Laird, AustinMcFarland, Fred Coleman, Preston Shelton, Calvin Robinson andHatcher.

Coached by Brent Calcote, the Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead after thefirst inning, and a 4-3 lead heading into the seventh inning, onlyto watch it slip away.

“It hurts,” said FC senior pitcher Colton Laird, a 4-year starter.”We had goals of winning state and playing Sumrall again, but itwasn’t meant to be.”

Forest moves on to the second round of the 3A State Baseballplayoffs that resume this Friday.
