Services for Mary “Miss Mary” Dickey Gill, of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. on Saturday, May 8, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church inBrookhaven, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, andon Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of theservice.

Mrs. Gill, 92, died May 5, 2010, at her residence. She was born inLincoln County on April 4, 1918, to John C. Dickey and LouellaSmith Dickey.

She was a graduate of Lucien High School and the University ofSouthern Mississippi, with a degree in home economics. Before herretirement, she taught school in Franklin County for two years andat West Lincoln for 42 years. A member of Pleasant Grove BaptistChurch, she taught Adult Ladies Sunday School Class I, which wasknown as “Miss Mary’s Class.” She was the former church librarian,and held numerous other church positions over the years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, PerleyWilliam Gill; her siblings and their spouses, Winnie and WesleyHerring, Horace and Wisie Dickey, Felder and Lessie Dickey, CharlesSpurgeon Dickey, Jim and Mildred Dickey, Hugh V. Dickey, Dorothy”Dot” Smith, Edard and Bessie Gill, and Clarence and CharlsieGill.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Diane Gill, ofBrookhaven; her grandsons, Jeffrey and Matthew Gill, of Brookhaven;her brother-in-law, Walter Smith; her sisters-in-law, Myra FayeDickey, Catherine Dickey and Mary Sisco Gill; her specialcaregivers and friends, Shirley Middleton, Magruder Spillers,Gloria Williams, Wonder Blue, Arie Maniscalco, and Nellie Woods;and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
