Lady Cats know Sebastopol

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats will face a familiarfoe in the Sebastopol Bobcats as they seek the South State 1Afastpitch softball championship. They tangle tonight on BC’s field,starting at 6 p.m.
The best-of-three series continues Saturday at Sebastopol. GameTwo starts at 5 p.m., followed by Game Three, if necessary.
This will be the seventh series that BC has played againstSebastopol in softball playoff action over the last six years. Itwill be the fourth meeting in fastpitch.
“I know Sebastopol will be playing extra hard because we putthem out in slowpitch,” said Leggett, recalling the 2009season.
“I’m confident in the way we are playing and so are my girls,”said Leggett. “We are four (wins) away from winning it all.”
Leggett’s girls are fresh from sweeping Natchez Cathedral in theplayoffs. Sebastopol eliminated Nanih Waiya last Saturdaynight.
“Our girls have done a great job this year,” said Leggett. “Onceyou reach the playoffs, you have to take it day by day. Right nowwe are focusing on Thursday.”
Leggett said Sebastopol has a balanced team. “They hit the ballpretty well and they have a good shortstop (Ashley McLemore) with avery strong arm.”
The Cats have pitching depth and a strong lineup with offensivepower.
Bogue Chitto’s starting lineup and batting average:
Second baseman Bradi Davis (.451) leads off for the Cats.Centerfielder Mattie Avants (.296) bats next, followed by catcherDarcy Miller (.507). Shortstop Josie Porter (.500) bats in the No.4 hole. Third baseman Adrienne Wallace (.493) bats next. Firstbaseman Alexis Givens (.294) bats sixth.
In the seven-hole is pitcher Toy Smith (.217), followed byleftfielder Rheagan Welch (.275) and rightfielder Kerri McGehee (.242).
Porter leads the Cats with 50 RBIs, ranking her 24th in thenation. Statewide, Porter ranks sixth.
“Josie does a good job of driving them in when
Bradi, Mattie and Darcy get on base,” said Leggett. Porter hittwo grand slam homers against West Lincoln earlier in theseason.
Davis ranks 24th in the state in runs scored with 38 to hercredit.
“Bradi and Mattie have been doing a pretty good job getting onbase,” said Leggett.
In the circle, Smith is 9-4 on the season. Welch is 8-4.
“Rheagan won some big games for us when Toy was out with herknee injury,” said Leggett.
Welch has a 2.70 ERA and Smith is 2.29. Welch has struck out 63batters and Smith has 61 strikeouts.
Leggett has a seniorless team. “We are a young team but we arean experienced team.”
He has four juniors on the squad in Miller, Smith, Davis andPorter.
This is the third straight year for BC to reach the South Statefinals.
