Summit man jailed on shooting charges

A Summit man is behind bars Monday after a Thursday altercationthat may have ended in his shooting into an occupied vehicle at theDixie Springs exit ramp.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Thomas Neil Allred, 28,of 408 Freeman Road in Summit, was arrested early Friday morningand charged with two counts of aggravated assault and shooting intoa motor vehicle after he allegedly discharged a firearm into a caroccupied by Kendall Jefferson and a female passenger.

“We got the call Friday of shots fired on Freeman Road in the DixieSprings area,” Rushing said. “The victim and Allred had some kindof altercation and had made contact earlier that evening.”

The dispute was over a possible run-in with a four-wheeler and avehicle, the sheriff said.

“When the victim came back through later on, Mr. Allred pursued himand started shooting at him,” Rushing said. “They got on the rampand he shot into the vehicle several times.”

Jefferson fled the scene and called officials from the McDonalds inBrookhaven. Rushing said neither he nor his passenger sustained anyinjuries.

Allred is still in jail on $150,000 bond, Rushing said.
