Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department investigators are lookingfor information from the public on several burglaries that havetaken place recently in the county, Sheriff Steve Rushingsaid.

Rushing said the flea market building on East Lincoln Road wasburglarized Sunday when someone broke in and made away with severalitems stored there, including a guitar and amplifier, some change,a knife and a compressor.

The building was unoccupied, Rushing said, though it is used everySunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as a flea market.

Meanwhile, there have been four other burglaries countywide in thelast few weeks, Rushing said.

“Various electronics and some guns and jewelry have been taken,” hesaid.

The other burglaries took place in residences on Jacks Lane,Monticello Street, Denton Trail and Fern Lane. Rushing said the twoon Denton and Fern could be related because they’re in the samevicinity, but there is nothing to suggest the others are related sofar.

Rushing said a gun and some jewelry were taken in the burglary onJacks Lane, while the one on Monticello Street was a television anda gun.

Meanwhile, the Fern Lane and Denton Trail burglaries both involvedthe thefts of guns and jewelry, with electronics also being stolenon Fern Lane.

Rushing said all five of the open cases involved forced entry intothe buildings.

“We’d appreciate any help the public can give us on these,” hesaid. “They have all occurred during the daytime, and we needpeople to keep their eyes out and if they see anything suspicious,they need to call us.”

There are precautions homeowners can take to protect theirproperty, Rushing said, and oftentimes it can be very basicsteps.

“For the guns, I’d suggest some kind of gun safe, and have itproperly mounted in the house,” he said. “And record the serialnumbers on your electronics so we know when we’ve found it.”

Oftentimes the hardest thing to locate is jewelry, he said.

“Take pictures of your important jewelry so we know what we’relooking for,” he said. “Just going off a general description ishard.”
