Police: Two men robbed at mailbox

Two men standing in their yard were robbed at gunpoint Mondayevening, Brookhaven police said Tuesday morning.

“It was an armed robbery on (East) Congress Street. There were twoguys standing by their mailbox, and four black males pulled up andtook an undetermined amount of money from them,” said Police ChiefPap Henderson.

Henderson said around 7:24 p.m. the assailants were in a car withan out-of-county tag. Henderson declined to reveal what county thetag was registered in, saying authorities are hoping to locate itin Lincoln County.

The men in the vehicle acted like they were lost, Hendersonsaid.

“They first asked for directions is what the victim said,”Henderson said. “Two of them got out and pulled the gun on them anddemanded their money.”

Police are talking to witnesses, Henderson said, and have theireyes open for the vehicle. The crime is believed to be an isolatedincident.
