Funeral Services for Dixie Etta Nettles Johnston, of Smithdale,are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Riverwood Family Funeral ServiceChapel with burial in Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery in McCallCreek.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnston, 79, died June 17, 2010, at Silver Cross Home. Shewas born in Mississippi on Nov. 17, 1930, to Hubie Nettles andLulleen Lofton Nettles.

She was a homemaker and a member of Ramah Baptist Church.

She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and “Nanny.” She was lovedat Silver Cross and had the special friendship of Mrs. JackieBeall. She and her husband Walter Harold Johnston were married for60 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her brother,Lamar Nettles; and her sisters, Lyvonne Hudson and OpalBarron.

Survivors are her son, Wayne Johnston and wife, Sissy, ofSmithdale; her daughters, Julia Smith and husband, Alton, andMelissa Lofton and husband, Roger, all of Smithdale; her sister,Jane Cotten and husband, Tommie, of Natchez; her brother-in-law,Cornie Hudson and wife, Vernie, of Natchez; her sisters-in-law,Martha Hammack and husband, James W., of Bolton, and Dorothy LoftonTerry, and husband, C.M., of Brookhaven; her six grandchildren,Misti Hedgepeth and husband, Jason, Trudy Pickett and husband,Jeremy, Susann Altman and husband, Kyle, Marcie Knight and husband,John, Brooks Smith, Kimberly Skates and husband, Alan; her eightgreat-grandchildren, Justin, Carlea and Kaylin Cline, Micah Powell,Korben Altman, Hayden Skates, Caroline Hedgepeth and AlanaSkates.
