McComb man dies following Thursday shooting

A McComb man shot in Brookhaven on Thursday night died at theUniversity of Mississippi Medical Center Friday afternoon,authorities said.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said Anthony Nichols, 21, of1027 W.A. Walker Road, McComb, was pronounced dead of a gunshotwound at UMC around 12:55 p.m. Friday.

“This is definitely complications of the gunshot wound,” McMorrissaid.

Nichols was shot in the forehead Thursday at the Happy Food Mart onSouth First Street by an unknown assailant sometime around 10 p.m.He was transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center,and from there was taken to UMC.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said he can’t release anydetails on the incident at this point, but officials have said thatwitnesses are being interviewed and the investigation isongoing.

Nichols’ body has been sent to the Mississippi State Crime lab forautopsy. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jones FuneralHome in McComb.
