Memorial services will be held Saturday June 26, 2010, atRiverwood Family Funeral Service, in Brookhaven, for Horace “BigDaddy” Melvin Hurst, 79, who passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at5:15 a.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette,La.

Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. The memorial servicewill begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riverwood Family FuneralService.

Graveside services will follow the memorial service at New HopeMethodist Church, Highway 550 past Loyd Star School.

Mr. Hurst, a resident of Brookhaven, was the son of Clanton E.Hurst and the former Ruby Dell Kennedy. He started working in theoil field at age 15 and retired at the age of 55. He was known inthe oil field as “Big Daddy.” He played football in Brookhaven from1947 until 1949.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia S. Hurst, ofBrookhaven; one daughter, Becky H. Dunn and her husband, Mike, ofLafayette; one son, Kenneth Hurst, of Los Angeles, Calif.; onegrandson, Chris Dunn and his wife, Virginia, of Lafayette; twogreat-grandchildren, Gabe and Aubrey Ann Dunn, of Lafayette; onesister Juanita Watts and her husband, Billy, of Houston, Texas; onebrother, Glenn Hurst and wife, Betty, of Brookhaven; and numerousnieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; baby Hurst; andone brother, Clanton Edward Hurst.
