Wesson tops Americans in subdistrict 9s

NATCHEZ – The Wesson all-star defeated the Lincoln CountyAmericans 8-5 Tuesday in the opening round of the Dixie YouthBaseball AAA 9s North Subdistrict Six Tournament at Bellew-BowlinField in Duncan Park.

The Lincoln County Nationals drew an opening round bye and playNatchez at 6 tonight. The Americans face Copiah at 8. Natchez beatCopiah 15-5 last night.

Wesson will play the winner of the Natchez-Lincoln Nationals gameThursday at 8.

Wesson 8, Americans 5

Derek Freeman pitched Wesson’s victory. He struck out two battersand walked two.

“Derek did a good job,” said Wesson coach Bradley Crow. “He onlyallowed two walks and that’s important in 9-year-oldbaseball.”

Landon Gartman took the loss in relief of Brent Cade.

At the plate, Wesson was led by shortstop Malik Brown who doubled.Grayson Brewer, C.J. Seals and Jim Guess singled.

“We didn’t’ hit the ball like should have,” said Americans coachBrian Williams. “Hopefully, we’ll do better tonight.”

The Americans got two singles from Justin Burt and Cade Feltus.Clint Stephens. Kline Foster , Ethan Nations and Cole Griffinsingled.
