Funeral services for Vernon Smith, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. onSaturday, June 26, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel, withburial in Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery inBrookhaven.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Smith, 77, died June 23, 2010, at his residence. He was bornin Lucien on Sept. 13, 1932, to Earn Smith and Mary WattsSmith.

He was retired from International Paper in Natchez after 39years of service. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church butattended Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church, where he wasactive and supportive in their ministry. He was a 1952 graduate ofMcCall Creek High School, and served in the United States Army,where he was a member of 101st Airborne, and served inGermany-Korean War.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved watchingeveryone’s children play ball, but the highlight of his life waswatching and supporting his grandchildren in all theiractivities.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers and threesisters.

Survivors are his wife, Ann Smith; his son, Glyn Smith and wifeTawanda, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Angela Smith and husbandJimmy, of Brookhaven, and Renee Chevallier and husband Mark, ofShreveport, La.; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Kyzar of Vidalia, La.;his grandchildren, Carrie Case and husband Daniel, Cole Smith andwife Whitney, Lauren Smith, Thor Chevallier and Ty Smith; and hisgreat-grandchildren, Tyler, Rayne and Riely Case.

Pallbearers are Bubba Griffith, Eric Smith, Roger Smith, AndyCupit, Shane Douglas and Sammy Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Danny Reeves, Gene Strait, JerryNations, Mike Thompson, Ellis Williams, Jimmy Smith, Buddy Priceand Charles Cupit.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
