Man charged with murder after shooting

A Beauregard man is in custody, charged with murder in theFriday night shooting of his stepfather, authorities saidTuesday.

Copiah County Sheriff’s department Detective Jerry Spell saidJustin Barron, 19, of Wooten Lane in Beauregard has been booked inthe Copiah County Jail and charged with murder in the shooting ofMatthew Alan Miller, 41.

Copiah County Deputy Coroner Dr. Rick Akin said Miller waskilled by two shotgun blasts to the back sometime after 9 p.m. athis home Friday. Spell said he was pronounced dead on the scene ofthe shooting.

A jail docket shows Barron in custody with the sheriff’sdepartment since Saturday.

Officials initially believed the shooting may be as a result ofa domestic dispute between Miller and his wife. Initial storiesindicated that Barron allegedly intervened in the fight and shothim.

Spell said Barron’s bond has been set for $100,000.
