Wesson wins DYB North 12s

Wesson’s David Lyle and Jonah Henderson produced clutch homeruns in a 14-9 win over Walthall County in the Dixie Youth BaseballMajors North Subdistrict Six Tournament Championship game on theBank of Franklin Field at Keystone Park Friday night. Wessonfinished unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament.

“This was a great game for both teams,” said Wesson coach RussLewis. “It was one of those games that someone had to win andsomeone had to lose. Fortunately, we were able to win.”

Wesson will host the winner of the rain-delayed South SubdistrictSix Tournament in a best-of-three series for the District SixChampionship. Game times have not been set yet.

Wesson 14, Walthall 9

Matthew Burns produced a strong pitching performance for Wesson,collecting three strikeouts and three walks. Scott Molaisonabsorbed the loss for Walthall with one strikeout and nowalks.

Lyle’s home run sparked a 10-run rally in the top of the thirdinning, which gave Wesson a 10-2 lead. Walthall fought back in thebottom of the third and fourth innings to cut down the lead to10-9.

Henderson provided some insurance runs with a two-run blast overthe fence in the top of the fifth inning for a 12-9 lead. Wessonincreased the lead by adding two more runs in the sixth for thevictory.

Henderson also had a double in his efforts to help lead the way.The other hitters were Landon Lewis, double and single; TreFleming, single; Blake Runyan, single; Tyler McLeod, two singles;Colby Porter, single; Ferrod Green, double; Matthew Burns, single;Eric Rhymes, single; and Justin Boone, single.

Dylan Burch was the leader for Walthall with a double. The otherhitters were Vashe Jefferson, single; Cole Reagan, single; TobiasConerly, single; Donavon Harness, single; Evan Busbin, single;Scott Molaison, single; T.J. Magee, single; and Brandon McDaniel,single.

Wesson had beaten Walthall 3-0 earlier in the tournament.
