Wesson rallies past Magee in DYB South 12s regional

MAGEE – Wesson defeated Magee 9-6 Tuesday night in the DixieYouth Baseball Major 12s South State Regional Tournament. Threeteams have records of three wins and one loss: Natchez, LawrenceCounty and Wesson.
Magee has a 3-2 record but remains in contention for a stateplayoff berth. The top three finishers will advance to Hattiesburgnext week.
Wesson manager Russ Lewis drew a bye last night at 11 o’clock aftera lengthy meeting among the team coaches and the region host,including a phone call to the DYB state director.
Wesson plays the winner of the Natchez-Lawrence County game at 8tonight. A Wesson win would clinch the championship. A Wesson losswould feature 3-way deadlock and call for a draw to determineThursday’s games.
Matthew Burns (2 K, 1 BB) started and hurled one inning as Mageescored five runs on a series of Wesson errors. Burns allowed fourhits.
Replacing Burns was Tyler McLeod (3 K, 1 BB) who gave up four hitsand one run. McLeod was credited with the victory.
Second baseman Justin Boone hit a fifth-inning, 3-run homer tospark Wesson. Boone also doubled.
McLeod and Daniel Lyle both singled and doubled. Collecting twosingles were Blake Runyan and Tre Fleming. Colby Porter and LandonLewis doubled. Burns singled.
Magee used four pitchers. Jacob Berry (3 K, 0 BB) went fourinnings. D’Juan McNair replaced Berry and Sam McWilliams finishedthe game.
McWilliams tripled twice and singled to pace Magee. McNairhomered.
Wesson tied Magee at 5-5 in the third frame. It was 6-6 in thefourth before Boone connected.
