Natchez shaves Wesson in DYB South Major 12s

MAGEE – The Natchez all-stars held off Wesson 8-7 in six inningsWednesday night in the Dixie Youth Baseball League Major 12s SouthRegional Tournament. Natchez was awarded the championship trophyand heads for the DYB State Tournament at Hattiesburg which beginsSaturday.
Wesson, managed by Russ Lewis, drew another bye after last night’sgame. Magee plays Lawrence County at 4 p.m. today. Wesson plays thewinner of that game at 6.
A Wesson victory will secure Wesson second place and a berth in thestate tournament. A loss would force a third game tonight at 8 todetermine the third place representative.
Justin Boone (4 K, 1 BB) started on the mound for Wesson andabsorbed the loss. He went five innings and allowed 11 hits, pluseight runs.
Matthew Burns (1 K, 0 BB) replaced McLeod, hurled the sixth frameand held Natchez hitless.
Boone hit a sixth-inning, solo homer to pull Wesson within one runof a deadlock with two outs. He also doubled and singled.
Eric Rhymes doubled for Wesson. Collecting singles were Burns,McLeod and Colby Porter.
Skeeter Myles (2 K, 1 BB) started on the mound for Natchez and wentone inning, allowing four hits and four runs. Edwin Byrne (4 K, 0BB) replaced Myles and finished the game. Byrne allowed five hitsand three runs.
Will Moffett hit a 3-run homer for Natchez in the fourth, earning a5-5 tie. Natchez scored three more runs in the fifth and held onfor the narrow victory..
Myles had a double and two singles in the win.
Tyler Wilson doubled and singled.
