Offense key for Lady Cobras in ’10

Hitting and scoring runs should be the key as Wesson Lady Cobraskick off their season August 16 at Bogue Chitto in slowpitchsoftball.

With Summer Rials, Shauntay Walker, Heather Tipps and TiffanyWages, Wesson will have four seniors providing leadership.

“Hopefully, we can do a better job of hitting the ball this yearand scoring runs,” said Wesson Head Coach Jackie Johnson.

Johnson, 24, will be starting her second season at the helm. TheLady Cobras look to improve on a 15-6 record last year and 5-1record in district.

Wesson will have four returning starters to help in the field:Summer Rials at third base, Mak Rials at left center field, Walkerat left field and Macie McQuage at shortstop.

Wesson lost four players to graduation last year in first basemenLeah Greer, pitcher Marley Cardle, catcher Kimmie Kolpek andshortstop Christian Fink.

Walker led the team in 2009 with a .345 batting average. McQuagebatted .333, Mak Rials .241 and Summer Rials .241.

The Lady Cobras assistant coaches are Michelle Nunnery and DaleLowery. Coach Johnson has 22 players on her squad.

The Lady Cobras’ first home game will be against the LawrenceCougars on Aug 17. The junior varsity game precedes the varsitygame.
