Tylertown blanks Jackets; Lawrence shuts out McComb

MONTICELLO — Enterprise, Tylertown, McComb and host LawrenceCounty got to showcase their talents and the results of their hardwork from summer workouts during a jamboree scrimmage Fridaynight.

Teams from Tylertown and Enterprise were the first to start thingsoff for the jamboree and they had the pleasure to do so in therain.

The rain didn’t prevent the fans from coming out to support theirteam. They hung around the fence with umbrellas to give support andwatch their teams have fun playing on a muddy field.

The defending State 3A champion Tylertown Chiefs managed to knockoff the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 40-0 due to four turnovers, whichwere returned back for touchdowns by the Chief defense. Tylertown’soffense did score twice, led by sophomore Chris Jones who had a38-yard touchdown run.

“I was very impressed on how well we played against a good teamlike Tylertown,” said Enterprise first-year head coach JoshGarrett. “We just had too many turnovers. Overall, I was very happywith our mental and physical approach to the game. This was a bigstep for us in the right direction.”

Enterprise kicks off its season Aug. 27, at Bogue Chitto.

Lawrence Co. 7, McComb 0

The Lawrence County Cougars took on the McComb Tigers in thenightcap. The Cougars’ defense capitalize on a Tiger mistake asNicholas McDonald intercepted a pass and ran it back for a 20-yardtouchdown.

“This was a good teaching situation for us,” said Lawrence CountyHead Coach Mike Davis. “We have a lot to work on and learn. Thiswas a good competition that helped us. Overall, I was glad that noone got hurt in the scrimmages.”

Davis carries his Cougars to Jackson’s Newell Field Thursday fortheir 2010 season opener against the Callaway Chargers. Kickoff is7:30 p.m.
