Bears, Jackets hunt victory

The West Lincoln Bears will invade Harry Cole Field Friday nightto take on the host Enterprise Fighting Yellow Jackets. The gamewill kick off at 7:30 p.m.

In action involving other Lincoln County teams, Clinton visitsBrookhaven. Loyd Star travels to Richland and Bogue Chitto hostsWesson.

West Lincoln had an open date last week but kicked off its seasontwo weeks ago with a 6-0 loss at Williams-Sullivan in Durant.

West Lincoln head coach Chris Calcote stated that Enterprise has anoutstanding team.

“Enterprise is a very good team,” said Calcote. “The Jackets playeda good game against Bogue Chitto. Enterprise does not have thesize, but they are well equipped with speed. I expect Enterprise tobounce back from the loss and be prepared to play us.”

In the loss to Williams-Sullivan, Alston Bozeman led the Bears with8 carries for 35 yards. Deon Moore also contributed 9 carries for22 yards.

The West Lincoln defense got 18 tackles from Garrett Wallace and 9tackles from Jonathan Smith.

Enterprise directed by first year coach Josh Garrett opened theirseason last week with a 28-7 loss to Bogue Chitto.

“The West Lincoln coaches do a great job with their team and theyhave a good program,” said Garrett. “But no matter who we play, wehave got to do our best. We have to cut out our mistakes and playEnterprise football.”

In the loss to the Bobcats, senior running back Garrett Greer ledthe Yellow Jackets by completing one pass for 74 yards to BradPrather for a touchdown. On the ground, Jedd Moak rushed thefootball 8 times for 46 yards. Prather also provided 37 yards on 6carries.

Matt King sparked the Jackets defense with 8 tackles. Prather added7 tackles.

Loyd Star is looking to rebound from a 48-34 loss to the NatchezCathedral Green Wave. Coached by Randall Huffman, the Hornets are0-2 on the season and will travel to Richland to play theRangers.

“Richland has a big team and they have some huge tacklers ondefense,” said Huffman. “We fell short last Friday but we willcontinue to get better.”

Directing the Loyd Star ground game against Cathedral was seniorrunning back Marquis Hayes with 17 carries for 179 yards and threetouchdowns. Marquis Sims had 8 carries for 59 yards and onetouchdown. Quarterback Korey Allen completed 3 of 8 passes for 46yards.
