Unbeaten McComb claws Franklin Co.

McCOMB – Deontay Evans ran for 153 yards on 10 carries andscored two touchdowns as the McComb Tigers scratched their way to a33-14 victory over the Franklin County Bulldogs Friday night atC.C. Moore Stadium.
McComb (3-0), under second year head coach Malcolm Jones, lookedevery bit the part of a talented 5A force by overpowering theBulldogs in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
“We’re just taking it one game at a time,” said Jones about hissquad. “We’ve got some talent here.”
Evans was quick and nimble in every phase of the ground game,shocking the Bulldogs with a 74-yard touchdown scamper in thesecond quarter that gave the Tigers a 12-7 lead.
FCHS (1-2) scored first in the contest off a Calvin Robinson65-yard catch from Milton Griffin. FC kicker Coleman Graves addedthe extra point for the 7-0 advantage.
McComb quarterback LaMarvin Ashley directed a quick drive momentslater, finding Quatavious Smith with a 25-yard TD reception. It wasall Tigers the rest of the way, as McComb swiftly scored 33straight points.
“Penalties swung the momentum in their favor,” said FC head coachRickey O’Quinn, who watched a second quarter interception returnfor a TD by Calvin Robinson called back on a roughing the passerpenalty.
FC didn’t score again until late in the fourth quarter off a13-yard pass from Jay Davis to Derrick Bethley.
The Bulldogs travel to winless South Pike this week with game timeset for 7:30 p.m. Friday in Magnolia.
