Shooting at convenience store under investigation

Authorities are continuing to investigate a Monday nightshooting incident at a north Brookhaven convenience store.

No one was injured in the shooting that happened around 9 p.m.at the Cracker Barrel on Highway 51, but a red Thunderbird was shotinto several times after the driver stopped at the store.Authorities did not identify the driver and she had no comment atthe scene Monday night.

“Somebody pulled up behind her and started shooting,” said Capt.Bobby Bell, investigator with the Brookhaven Police Department.

Bell counted about seven holes in the driver’s side of the car.He said the bullets appeared to have come from something like a 9mm weapon.

Witness Leslie Murray said he heard five or six shots and thensaw a man grab something small from the seat of the car.

“It fit in his hand,” said Murray, adding that the man fled in avehicle. “He grabbed it and jetted north.”

Bell said the incident remains under investigation. Authoritiessaid Tuesday they were looking to question several witnesses beforebeing able to release additional information.
