Co-Lin Wolfpack hunting second win Thursday night

WESSON – Facing their final test before launching South Divisionplay, the Co-Lin Wolfpack entertain the Holmes Community CollegeBulldogs Thursday night in Stone Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Co-Lin is fresh from a 33-6, season-opening win against CoahomaCommunity College. Holmes, based in Goodman, hopes to rebound froma 21-20 home field loss to Southwest.
Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis talked about the Bulldogs. “They losta close one to Southwest. It was a hard-fought game for both ofthem. They botched an extra point at the end of the game that wouldhave tied it.”
The Bulldogs lost a fumble at the Southwest 35-yard line with 2:21left to play. That miscue allowed Southwest to run out theclock.
“Holmes plays hard,” said Davis. “Hopefully, we can be a lot betterthan our first game. We have a lot of improving to do.”
Danny Robertson is the head coach at Holmes. He has around 30freshmen on the 55-member squad.
The Bulldogs are led by sophomore quarterback W.J. McAllister (6-2,190) from Bonaire, Ga., and sophomore running back Harry Peoples(5-11, 190), from Winona. The team’s best receiver is Larry Jackson(6-5, 220), a sophomore from Dade City, Fla.
Defensively, the Bulldogs have some talent. Coach Davis said DrewDennis (6-1, 220, so.), a linebacker from Ridgeland, “sticks out.”Randy Smith (6-0, 190, so.) a defensive back from Ridgeland is aleader in the secondary.
“They have a big defensive lineman in Dewayne Cherrington (6-3,330, fr.),” from Wynette, Ga. “We will have to handle himinside.”
Wolves Finish Strong
Offensively, Co-Lin started slowly against Coahoma but eventuallywore down the Tigers, especially in the second half. Sophomorequarterback Percy Turner passed for four touchdowns, including apair of TD tosses to running back Titus Mobley, covering 35 and 18yards. Turner also hooked up with Fred Fuller for 25 yards, andMichael Berry for four yards and TDs.
Mobley was Co-Lin’s leading rusher with 10 carries for 53 yards.The Wolves finished with a below-average 71 yards rushing.
“We must run the ball better and throw the ball better,” saidDavis. “Percy missed a lot of throws.”
Defensively, Davis said, “We played hard on defense but we muststop the run better.” Coahoma running back Courtney Vaughn rushed17 times for 49 yards.
Topping Co-Lin’s tackle charts was linebacker Joe Mays 7 solostackles and 2 assists. Mays is a sophomore from Louise (HumphreysCounty).
Jordan Hunt, Sterling Thompson and Jason Catchings each had 5 solostops in the victory. Dehendret Collins intercepted a pass andreturned it 59 yards.
Freshman kicker/punter Justin Danise of Ocean Springs drew praisefrom Davis. “Our kicker did a good job for his first time.”
Danise was 4-for-4 on extra points and clicked on a 24-yard fieldgoal. He also punted eight times for a 35-yard average.
