Lady Panthers escape North Pike

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers held off a last-inning, North Pikerally and escaped with an 7-6 Monday night win over the LadyJaguars in slowpitch softball action. The Jaguars had erupted forthree runs their final turn at bat.

Brooke Hosick pitched the victory. She allowed 12 hits.

Charneisssa Gordon went seven innings and absorbed the loss. Shegave up 11 hits and four earned runs.

At the plate, BHS was powered by extra fielder Christen Benson whohad singled and tripled, collecting two RBIs. Hosick, third basemanEmily Freeman and right-fielder Erica Lenoir also had two hitsapiece. Erica Bridwell, Sarah Ayers and Madeline DeLaughter singledas Coach Lisa Covington’s Panthers built a 7-3 lead entering thebottom of the seventh.

North Pike, coached by Sonya Wallace, got three hits from thirdbaseman Alana Hopkins. First baseman Marissa Jenkins, right-fielderRachel Kelly and catcher Breanna McKenzie all singled and homered.Second baseman Summer Brown had two hits. Lauren Wells and Gordonsingled.

The Jaguars sprang to a 2-0, first-inning lead and were up 3-1after three frames. A 3-run fifth pushed the Panthers ahead 5-3.The winners plated two more in the sixth.

North Pike struggled with five errors and BHS made threemiscues.

BHS plays a Region 5A game at McComb today and North Pike hostsLawrence County in 4A action, starting at 5 p.m. with the juniorvarsity.

In the JV game, North Pike posted a 12-4 victory as McKenzie Brocktripled. Baylee Bryant, Janay Maxwell and Jana McEwensingled.

Danaraye Parks pitched the victory.
